Abaqus 6.9 is a unified finite element analysis (FEA) product suite used by designers, engineers and researchers in a range of industries, including electronics, consumer packaged goods, aerospace, automotive, energy and life sciences to evaluate real-world behavior of materials, products and manufacturing processes. This release delivers key new capabilities for fracture and failure, high-performance computing, and noise and vibration. The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) has been implemented in the current version and provides a tool for simulating crack growth along arbitrary paths that do not correspond to element boundaries. In the aerospace industry, XFEM can be used in combination with the software’s other capabilities to predict the durability and damage tolerance of composite aircraft structures.
